Material Falsehood

"Could emptiness in the form of sound really be conveyed thousands of miles? Science couldn't be busying itself with nonsense like that- science was an important matter whereas a radio was something accidental, and moreover it couldn't write, it didn't leave you any documents, and so there was no guarantee that the cardboard trumpet was telling the truth."
-Andrey Platonov
